Finding Styles to Last in Plus Size Formal Fashion
Every year, you'll see magazines and websites talking about what's new this year. However, most of us don't revamp our wardrobes entirely every year, and most plus size women are used to hanging on to a flattering outfit if we find one. Since you only wear formal or special occasion dresses a few times a year, it's even more important to find styles that will last, and keep looking great. Here are a few tips to finding long lasting, flattering formal clothes.
It is vital that you are familiar with your body shape. You may be apple shaped, pear shaped, an hourglass or a rectangle. Where your weight is situated can determine how well a dress fits. An outfit that fits well can be more flattering than a trendy dress that doesn't suit you. If a garment has only a minor fitting flaw, consider alterations. Also, avoid trendy styles. While they may look stylish now, they will soon be dated, minimizing your wearing time. Choose conservative clothes that you can wear again and again.
Comfort is the key. The right bra and a pair of high heels can make women look terrific; however, if they are completely uncomfortable, you won't wear them again. Don't own an ensemble that makes miserable. You won't be able to hide your mood. In turn, you won't enjoy your time out. Classic lines are often clean and tailored. It's the details that change. An outfit that is simple will last you longer than one with lots of fancy details. Look for empire cuts, bodices with structure, and A-line designs; they are more likely to flatter your figure. Avoid bold prints, but don't be afraid to wear a loud solid. Solids are classy and will stand the test of time. They will compliment your figure for a longer period of time. One warning: compare the color to your skin tone. Some colors can make you look flushed, sallow, or even ill.
Avoid enhancing your problem spots. Sure, that dress looked great on the rack, but if it plays up your abdomen, you could look like an apple! Play up your best features, and be careful to minimize the ones you aren't so fond of. Tailoring your clothes to personal style and shape is important for everyone, but especially so for plus size women. Paying attention to how clothes look on you could make the difference between a great dress and one that just looks off somehow.
These are just a few tips to help you get a great, flattering style that you'll be able to wear for more than just a few months. There's a lot to choose from, and it's getting easier than ever to find great looking plus size clothes. Just pay attention to how a given dress fits you, and not the latest look.
